Changing the Designer's preferences affects how the Designer connects to Database (for Reverse & Consult data functionalities).
It also affects the default JDBC Class and URL when creating Metadata.
Note that it does not directly affect how the Runtime connects to the Database : only the Metadata and the installed Jdbc driver have influence on this part. I suppose that your new Metadata got new parameters from your new Driver declaration.
